This series is well acted and directed in the sense that the scenes work. However, the story is completely implausible and relies on ludicrous contrivances to try to force out the main theme - the conflict between justice and moral right. The British legal system has many faults and judges and lawyers can be manipulative, self seeking and make errors, but not to this degree. It seems that the Director and writer think the use of some excellent actors and plenty of gratuitous violence can cover up these flaws. Doubtless it will be successful as audiences can be easily taken in, eg by David Tennant's equally well acted but ridiculously plotted Broadchurch. Script For A Jester's Tear is a music studio album recording by MARILLION (Neo-Prog/Progressive Rock) released in 1983 on cd, lp / vinyl and/or cassette. But we think we are getting there. The key is for the community to. A Person of Mass Destruction is a character with powers, abilities, or skills capable of causing damage on the level of a Weapon of Mass Destruction. And they lived happily ever after! They’re married, what more is there? Happily ever after? I’m not sure how many married couples would explain their marriage as “happily ever after.” Not that all marriages are bad, by no means! But marriage comes with its challenges. It takes work. It takes dedication. It can be great, it can be happy, but it can also be hard. Rock legends The Easybeats set to enjoy huge success with mini-series and tour. One growing difficulty in many marriages is the issue of pornography. Everything can seem great until the Mrs. Maybe the Mrs. It never enriches, it only deceives. Porn will not develop anyone, but only put the user (and others) in harms way. If porn is involved in your marriage, you are not alone. Covenant Eyes reported in their most recent statistics (via MSNBC and a Stanford/Duquesne study): “In 2. Americans spent 1 to 1. Internet pornography, and as many as 4. Internet pornography.” Of those millions, I cannot imagine how many are married. I myself have experienced the problem of porn in my marriage. My husband revealed his struggle to me just a few months before we were married and it has been a part of our lives ever since. Not that my husband is actively involved in pornography any longer, but just as alcoholism is a struggle with no cure, so is the addiction to pornography. One sip, one look, and it can be a downhill journey once again. Worth the Fight. So why try? Does it really hurt your marriage? Is it something worth fighting against if the urges and temptations will always be there and the “happily ever after” doesn’t completely exist? Yes. One million times, yes! Though this struggle is hard, your marriage is worth it. Just as you would fight hard to prevent alcoholism or drug addiction, fight just as hard against the battle of pornography. Still not convinced? Here are 5 ways that pornography can hurt your marriage. I pray you take them to heart and know that none of us are immune to the affects. Way #1: Porn Invites Comparison. Invite anyone into your marriage—past, present, or future—and that person will always be somewhere in your mind. For example: if you have had a sexual partner apart from your spouse, possibly even years before you were married, could sex with your spouse bring that previous relationship back to your mind? Of course it would! No matter how hard we can try to forget the past, it becomes a part of who we are. It becomes an ingrained memory that cannot easily be pushed aside. Are we more than our past? We can change, we can move forward as a new person. But the memories are always there. Now think of this with pornography. If a man sees an image of a naked woman, what happens when he sees his wife naked in a few hours? Does he not notice that his wife may not have the same computer- generated flawless features? And what about the video he watched of two people having sex? He may begin to believe that sex with his wife is not quite as exciting as the scripted scene he had witnessed before. Romance novels and soft porn can have the very same effects. I heard once that comparison is the thief of joy. I don’t think it could be explained any better, especially in this situation. Porn invites in comparison. Comparison can take away the joy that we experience in our marriages, specifically in our marriage beds. Way #2: Porn Encourages Lies. Pornography as a topic is generally avoided. It’s kept behind closed doors (just where Satan likes it) so the habit and addiction can fester and grow. There are marriages where it is freely done and the spouse knows about it (I highly disagree with this as well), but for the most part you will find that the one looking at porn is keeping it under wraps. Lies of any sort can rip a marriage apart, but lies about porn are sneaky ones that often take a while to come out into the open. Before porn is revealed in a marriage, it can wrap its claws around the aspect of one’s life and cause detrimental harm. Proverbs 1. 2: 2. The Lord detests lying lips, but he delights in people who are trustworthy.” Being trustworthy means honesty with your spouse. Hiding a porn addiction is not only being dishonest, but it’s being untrustworthy. A marriage is built on trust, and without it the marriage will crumble. Way #3: Porn Lowers Self- Worth. As a psychology and counseling major, I’ve heard the term “self- esteem” quite a bit. It’s thrown around frequently, and while there is truth to it, I like the term “self- worth” a whole lot better. I believe it better encompasses the greater issue. When we don’t feel good about ourselves, it is more of a worth issue than one of esteem for ourselves. I get into this because I believe porn can greatly mess with the self- worth of both a husband and a wife in a marriage, no matter who it is that is struggling with the addiction. Genesis 1: 2. 7 says, “So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.” God created us in His image, one that is holy and righteous. But when we sin, or those we love sin against us, we rarely feel anything close to the attributes of holiness and righteousness. This is most often an issue for the wife whose husband is struggling with porn. In my own experience, and in talking to numerous other wives who have been through this, the question rolling through our minds is “Am I not good enough?” If we know our husbands are looking at other women, it must mean that they don’t think we are enough for them. I might think I am not pretty enough, not sexy enough, or not worthy of love and affection. While the struggle with porn is far greater than what the wife may think, the issue of self- worth is still there. I would also argue that looking at porn is a self- worth issue for both men and women. When one becomes upset with him/herself, going into “another world” can be an easy escape from reality—one that always appears to fulfill and bring pleasure no matter what the real- life circumstances may be. Just as one may go towards alcohol or drug abuse in situations of frustration and low self- worth, so someone else can turn to porn. Porn starts with low self- worth and ends with low self- worth. Without respect for oneself, a marriage will be brought down. Without knowledge of how you were designed (in God’s image) and without living in light of that knowledge, a marriage will suffer. Way #4: Porn Robs Us of Intimacy. Porn takes intimacy away. On to the next point. Hebrews 1. 3: 4 says, “Let marriage be held in honor among all, and let the marriage bed be undefiled, for God will judge the sexually immoral and adulterous.” “Undefiled” means “without stain or blemish.” Porn is a stain. It’s that nasty grass stain that will never come out of a white t- shirt. It can be covered, dyed, washed, and cleaned, but it will always still be there. Porn will defile a marriage bed. It will steal from the intimacy that a married couple has the opportunity to be blessed with. Porn will take sex that a married couple has and completely strip away all holiness and intimacy that it once had. It invites someone else into the sexual relationship, which leads to our next point. I debated whether to include this one or not. It’s harsh, it’s hurtful. Porn is adultery. Matthew 5: 2. 8 says, “But I say to you that everyone who looks at a woman with lustful intent has already committed adultery with her in his heart.” No arguing with that one. Jesus is pretty clear, and you know He already knew about the sin of pornography before it ever came into existence (though I suspect they already had forms of it during this time period). He knew the easy accessibility that the Internet would someday bring. He knew that 4. 7% of families (via Covenant Eyes and Focus on the Family statistics) would have this problem in their home one day. Looking at another man or woman in lust is adultery. No ifs, ands, or buts about it. Hard reality, but a truthful one. Porn is adultery and obviously, adultery is a problem in marriage. God is Bigger. This was a hard post to write. So harsh, so dark, so depressing! Unfortunately, it is all true. These are just five ways that porn will hurt your marriage and unfortunately, there are hundreds more. But I can’t leave you with that! God redeems (Eph. God heals (1 Cor. God does miracles (Matt. God is bigger (Isaiah 5. My husband and I are a testament to this. While pornography will always be a struggle and temptation that we will seek to conquer, He has blessed us with an incredible marriage despite the evil that has threatened our relationship. He has healed us from comparing or being fearful of comparison. He has taken away the lies and silence that held my husband for so many years before he told me about his struggle. He has restored our self- worth and made us feel like royal children (as we all are!). He has completely brought back all intimacy that was lost and not only that, has made it better! And He, by far, is greater than any sin of adultery. Satan may try to take us down, but God keeps our marriage up and thriving. We give all the glory to Him and are so blessed by the great things He has done.“And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.” – Romans 8: 2. Skins (2. 00. 7- 1. British teen drama set in Bristol, England and commissioned by Channel 4 in an attempt to put more homegrown (read: sexy) talent on television. The show grew popular among its mostly 1. The second series was much criticized by fans of the show for its shift from the more lighthearted tone of the previous season to more dramatic storylines, and many angry letters were sent when a major character was eventually killed off. As a majority of the characters left Bristol to go onto university, future careers, etc., Series 3 began with a completely new cast (save for two of the minor characters in the original cast who are upgraded to the major cast), the so- called . On the upside, the second generation received lots of critical acclaim for its treatment of lesbian Super Couple Naomi and Emily. Another cast, . It was announced during the latter series that they would be the final generation and the show is to end in 2. Development Hell. Instead, the seventh series consisted of three two- part stories subtitled . MTV launched an American version in January 2. Most of the attention it gained was on the back of the controversy it generated, with Moral Guardians accusing it of breaching child pornography laws and pressuring advertisers to pull their ads from the show (and they mostly listened, with eight sponsors pulling their ad revenue). It also came under fire from critics for being what they saw as a poor imitation of the British show, especially in the acting and writing departments. Despite all that plus lukewarm ratings, it managed to reach the end of its first season before being cancelled. Now with a character page. Some Tropes have been moved there. Abusive Parents: Chris has the shittiest parents in the world, directly affecting his upbringing, his welfare and his personality. His dad cut Chris out of his life permanently after the death of his brother, and his mum runs off and abandons him in series 1. Cook's dad is a pathetic loser who shirks his responsibilities, while his mum is an alcoholic conceptual . Neither one has a shred of love for their son, and when Cook is reunited with them throughout the series, both coldly blame him for everything that went wrong in their lives. Cassie's parents. Some could argue that her seeing them naked all the time, as well as the pictures of her mother giving birth to her brother with the umbilical cord still attached constitute abuse. They are definitely negligent of her and (to a lesser degree) of her brother. As far as we know, they didn't even visit her in the hospital after she tried to kill herself. They also don't keep track of her behaviour in regards to her anorexia at all. When Cassie says she will be signed off from the clinic if she has gained weight, it is clear that her parents don't know if she has even done it. Not to mention in S2, they let her go back to Bristol without setting her up with any living arrangements. They must have given her some money, though, because what else would explain her being able to escape to New York in her centric episode? Sid's dad Mark starts out as distant, fiery and emotionally abusive. This becomes subverted later on though, after Sid's mum abandons them. Michelle's mother isn't abusive, but she's definitely negligent. She's totally focused on her own love life and doesn't notice when Michelle and Tony have broken up. Adults Are Useless: On so many levels, though it does get subverted at times with the parents. Possibly justified in that the series is from the point of view of teenagers, who often feel let down or ignored by adults. And that the sort of teens who could get away with as much partying, drug use and sex as these characters do would have to have somewhat inept/oblivious parents. One of the best subversions on the show is Doug, a part of Roundview's faculty throughout all six seasons who, though frequently treated with little respect, does his best to understand and nurture the characters. Affectionate Gesture to the Head: JJ is forever having his hair ruffled; he's well aware that it's mostly patronising. And they'd listen to me for once and not fucking ruffle my hair! Not to mention Tony Stonem. The American version has Chris Collins and Cadie Campbell. All There in the Manual: The novel is supposed to fill in the gap between series 3 and 4. S4 has used elements from the book for crucial plot points, and alluded to goings on from the E4. Anguished Declaration of Love: S2 has two, from Chris to Jal in the former's episode, and from Sid when he reunites with Cassie in Effy's episode. But the show's most notable one came in the S4 finale, from Naomi to Emily. The one from Nick to Franky is usually looked over, despite the fairly awesome acting, because of people's opinion on the couple. Arcadia: Creevey farm and Somerset; the latter is Truth in Television. Ascended Extra: Pandora had a small part in Effy's episode in series 2. Along with Effy, she was promoted to a central protagonist in series 3 and 4. Professor David Blood also rose considerably in importance in the third generation, as his daughter became a part of the main cast. Berserk Button: When an anxious, edgy Cook sees Effy and Freddie kissing in a nightclub, he explodes in anger and violently takes out his rage on a bystander who brushes past him. Beta Couple: Grace and Rich were this in S5. Better as Friends: What ended up happening in S4 with Naomi and Cook. What Sid and Michelle were as of the end of S1. By Michelle's S2 episode, however, they're both single and lonely again and end up getting together. Even after they broke up, their friendship never quite recovered from the fall- out. How Mini/Franky seems to be as of the beginning of S6. Betty and Veronica: Skins is fond of playing with this trope. With Sid as the Archie, it initially appears that Cassie is the Betty while Michelle is the Veronica. Series 2 turns this on its head. It's much clearer for Michelle: Sid is the Betty and Tony is the Veronica. And the same is true for Michelle, Stanley and Tony in the U. S. With Chris as the Archie, Jal is the Betty to Angie's Veronica. The Triangle of Doom: Freddie as the Betty and Cook as the Veronica to Effy's Archie. JJ also liked to fancy himself as a Cheryl Blossom for a time. The show plays with the trope again in Thomas's S4 episode. Thomas and his family see Andrea as the Betty to Pandora's Veronica. Viewers know, however, that it's actually the reverse and Thomas learns this by the end of the episode. In the triangle with Franky as the Archie, it's hard to tell which one is Mini and which one is Matty. However, with Matty at the center, it's clear that Franky is the Betty and Liv is the Veronica. Then in series 6, we have Franky as the Archie once more, with Nick as the Betty and Luke as the original Veronica, though he is eventually replaced by Matty once more. With Tea as the Archie, Betty is, well, the Betty and Tony is the Veronica. Big Damn Heroes: Maxxie and the Russian police in . Nick's Rugby Union match is set up as one of these in his season 5 episode, only for him to quit the team before it even starts. Bilingual Bonus: Whenever Thomas speaks French. Binge Montage. Birds of a Feather: Cassie and Chris, probably the two most dysfunctional and immature members of Generation 1, become incredibly close and affectionate friends after living together for a while. This makes his abrupt death in her arms all the harder for her to deal with. Bittersweet Ending: Let's have a look. First Generation: Tony recovers from the bus accident and regain Michelle's love, but they are not going to back together and say goodbye forever. Jal keeps studying the clarinet and follows her dream of being a musician, but Chris died and she aborted their child. Cassie and Sid are reconciled but after Chris' death, Cassie run away to New York. Sid at the ending is looking for her in Manhattan but we don't know until Skins Pure if they have seen each other again. Anwar goes to London with his friends, dumping his girlfriend but has not a clue about what he will do with his life. Second Generation: Effy's mental health finally is getting better but Freddie has been killed by her psychologist and no one except Cook knows it. Cook himself become a murder and a fugitive after killing the psychologist but he vindicated Freddie's murder. Blank Slate: John Foster tries to turn Effy into this. He basically admits as such, in the season finale, that it's so he can have her for himself, by taking away all her memories of Freddie and Cook and everyone to whom she was ever close. Boggles the Mind: When recovering anorexic Cassie and one of her loony bin mates play Scrabble, the whole board is covered in foods. Book Ends: The first season opens with Tony in bed, close up on his face; the second season closes with Effy in the same bed, close up on her face. The beginning of that second season closer also begins zeroing in on Tony's face in the bed, essentially in the same place he was at the beginning of the first episode. The first episode begins with Tony in his bed, and finishes with Tony and Sid in the bed. The last shot of Series 6 (the final regular series of the show, as well) is a zoom- out shot of Rich saying . Contrasting as well to the first shot of Series 5 being zoom- in shot of Franky opening her eyes (which is most likely also a Continuity Nod to Series 1). Break the Cutie: Happens a lot - just about every character deals with getting . Julie asks Spencer if anyone calls him Spence; he flatly says no. After The Reveal, his buddy Josh calls him exactly that. British Brevity: Seasons range from 6- 1. Brother. Tony's own girlfriend admits that Effy is the only person in the world Tony truly cares about. Expect eye rolls from Effy every time a girl hits on Tony in her presence. Also, Tony's Season 2 episode reveals that he has thoughts of having sex with Effy. Effy's Unseen Skins episode in Series 1 takes this Up to Eleven.
